Guns for security offer an ironic promise of safety: “People who report ‘firearm access’ are at twice the risk of homicide and more than three times the risk of suicide compared to those who do not own or have access to firearms” (Gun Violence: Facts and Statistics).
Gun “rights” activists such as the National Association for Gun Rights do the same when they claim to work “to advance true firearms freedom.” After all, even in situations of self defense, the sole purpose of a gun is coercion — the antithesis to freedom.
