I am much better than Amish at being Amish.
Maybe you’ve heard about Amish quilters adding “humility squares” into their quilts, intentional imperfections to keep them from being too proud of their abilities.
Well, I don’t settle for just one such square, ever. Nope, I go for multiples, and I don’t even really have to go for them in order for them to happen.
This morning at church, for example, my many harsh, off-key, out-of-tune notes in the middle of my emotional guitar solo in Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” rang so dissonantly that they are continuing to keep me humble.
And I didn’t even have to plan them.
